Cox Smith invites second-year law students to participate in our Firm's Summer Associate Program which is held in our San Antonio office. The firm relies on this program to satisfy the majority of our hiring need for new associates in each of our offices. In fact, approximately 46% of our 2009 summer class received offers for permanent employment and 62% of our 2010 summer class received offers for permanent employment.
The 2011 summer program will run the duration of one six week session over the latter half of the summer. Our program is structured in a way that allows each Summer Associate to rotate through his or her preferred departments or practice areas for a period of two to three weeks, thereby giving each Summer Associate the opportunity to work directly with our lawyers on a variety of assignments. Depending upon the practice areas in which they are working, Summer Associates participate in depositions, client conferences, negotiation sessions, closings and court appearances. Each Summer Associate is also assigned a mentor to provide guidance throughout their six weeks.
In addition to receiving quality work assignments, Cox Smith believes that it is equally important for every Summer Associate to get to know our lawyers on a personal basis and to experience the quality of life for which we are known. Our Summer Program schedule, therefore, includes a wide variety of social and cultural activities. These activities acquaint our Summer Associates with both our Firm and the San Antonio community and are designed to give each student a true picture of life at Cox Smith.
Eight second- year students hailing from five law schools are participating in Cox Smith's 2011 Summer Associate Program. This distinguished group of students joins the Firm from an impressive list of top legal programs across the nation, including Baylor University, St. Mary's University, Texas Tech University, University of Texas and William & Mary.
In addition to the diversity of law schools they attend, our Summer Associates earned undergraduate degrees of study in such divergent fields as Anthropology, Comparative Area Studies, Corporate Financial Management, History, Journalism, Literature, Pyschology and Religion.
